Stray dog sterilization program conducted at JU

'The rate of cancer in dogs with complications from multiple births will brought under control'

The Deep Ecology and Snake Conservation Foundation (DESCF) has organized a stray dog sterilization program at Jahangirnagar University to save dogs from human cruelty. 

The initiative will also help to ensure the coexistence of humans and dogs and will reduce the fear of dogs among residents and students, said a press release. 

The two-day-long program was held on Friday and Saturday.

There were four veterinary doctors, including Dr Bayezid Bostami, and four veterinary assistants in the main surgical team.

In this two-day long program, the DESCF volunteers and Jahangirnagar University students worked in the overall management of sterilization of 70 dogs on the campus and four adjacent areas.

DESCF Founder Mahfuzur Rahman said: "The conflict between dogs and humans will be greatly reduced by neutering the dogs in campus and surrounding areas at a certain ratio."

He further added: "We are hoping that the rate of cancer in dogs with complications from multiple births, injuries from boundary fights between dogs for breeding and human cruelty to dogs will be brought under control."
