Two die in collision between trucks on Dhaka-Bhanga expressway

The bodies and both trucks are in the custody of the highway police

Two people were killed in a collision between two trucks on the Dhaka-Bhanga expressway in Madaripur's Shibchar.

The incident took place around 4am on Monday in the Bakhorer Kandi area of Madbarerchar Union in Shibchar.

The deceased were identified as Basir Howladar, 35, son of the late Rashid Howladar from the Shyampur area in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal, and Sujon, 25, son of Md Mizan from the Bekhutia Swajalpur area under Kotwali Police Station in Jessore district.

According to Shibchar Highway police sources, a Dhaka-bound truck carrying melons from Bakerganj broke down on the expressway. The driver of the truck, Basir, was repairing the vehicle. At that time, another truck carrying mangoes from Jessore hit the truck from behind, killing Basir and Sujon on the spot.

Shibchar Highway police station Sub-Inspector Abdullahel Baki said they went to the accident site and recovered the bodies of the deceased upon receiving information.

The driver of the broken-down truck and the helper of the truck that hit from behind have died, he said.

"The bodies and both trucks are in the custody of the highway police," he added.
