A gas leak has been detected in the industrial connection line of Titas Gas in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, forcing the distributor to suspend gas supply to Rupganj and Araihazar areas for the time being.
The leak was reported on Thursday evening between City Mills and Aftab Feed Mill in the Rupshi area of Rupshi-Kanchan road in Tarab municipality of the upazila.
Sources at Titas and local residents reported that due to the leakage, gas began to come out with a loud hissing noise, resembling smoke rising into the sky.
The incident caused traffic in the area to come to a standstill.
The event caused panic among the residents of the area, and upon receiving the information, the regional distribution division of Titas Gas immediately shut down all source lines.
According to sources at Titas Gas, there were several high-pressure industrial connections and multiple residential gas pipelines in the Rupshi area of Rupganj.
A leakage was detected in one of the gas connection lines; however, it has not yet been determined which line has the leak.
It was not immediately known how long it will take to identify and repair the line.
However, work is underway to resolve the problem, Titas Gas sources said.
