Dhaka metro rail drew a huge crowd on Saturday, on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The city dwellers, including many people from the surrounding areas of Dhaka, visited with their families and friends to enjoy the metro rail ride on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.
Agargaon metro rail station witnessed a huge crowd of enthusiastic passengers even before the gates were opened on Saturday afternoon.
Most of the passengers were very excited as they were riding the metro rail for the first time.
The management authorities of metro rail conveyed Eid greetings to the passengers after opening the gate.
Faisal, who came from Hemayetpur in Savar along with six friends to travel by metro rail for the first time, said: "I have been watching it on TV since it started operating. This morning, after offering the Eid prayer, I planned to ride the metro rail. It feels good, the station is very beautiful. I will buy tickets now.”
Farzana Bithi came to ride the metro rail with her husband Manwar. Earlier, she had heard many stories about the Singapore metro rail from her expatriate husband. This time, as her husband came to the country on vacation, she came to travel on the metro rail with him.
Farzana expressed her feelings and said: "I am overjoyed. My little girl is even happier. I have heard many stories from my husband about the metro rail. He rides the metro rail every day in Singapore. Now metro rail service has started in Bangladesh. I don't need to hear the stories anymore. I can travel by metro rail by myself."
Asad said: "The station is very modern and beautiful. I have seen metro rail in foreign movies, and now I am seeing it in front of my eyes in the country..”
Lokman Hossain, another passenger who reached Agargaon after getting up from Mirpur-11, said; "I feel like I am in a foreign country when I ride the metro rail. I can go from one place to another so fast, I can't imagine. My children are very happy.”
The metro rail was operational during the Eid holidays and even on Eid day.
On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.
She opened an 11.73-km part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 of the metro rail project from Diabari to Agargaon by unveiling its plaque at Diabari in Dhaka.
