Special meals have been prepared for inmates in prisons across Bangladesh, including 9,000 prisoners of Dhaka Central Jail, on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Puffed rice, rice pudding and sweets were served on Saturday morning, while more elaborate meals are planned for lunch and dinner.
Dhaka Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Subhash Kumar Ghosh said Eid prayers were held on the prison premises and all Muslim inmates participated in the congregation.
"Considering the ongoing heatwave, no outdoor programs were planned this year," he added.
According to prison sources, a multi-course meal has been arranged for lunch, including pilau, roasted chicken, beef and mutton. Soft drinks and betel leaf will be served as well.
For dinner, inmates will have white rice, potato curry, eggs and rui fish, along with lemon and salad.
Md Main Uddin Bhuiyan, assistant inspector general (Admin) of prisons, Department of Prisons, said delicious meals have been arranged for inmates in all prisons across the country.
Relevant prison officials are overseeing these arrangements, he added.
