Hundreds of motorcyclists, some alone and others with their families, were queuing up to cross the Bangabandhu Bridge on Wednesday morning, heading home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
With the Eid holidays starting, many people are returning home with their families to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, and a large number of people are opting for motorcycles instead of public transportation to reach their destinations.
Many motorcyclists were waiting near the separate booth established near the toll plaza of Bangabandhu Bridge, waiting to pay the toll.
At this time, officials were asking the motorcyclists to keep the toll money on hand.
Mubarak Hossain said he left Narayanganj on a motorcycle to go home for Eid.
Dhaka TribuneHe was fairly satisfied as he did not face any traffic jams and was able to reach the Bangabandhu Bridge without trouble.
“The highways were empty at night,” he said.
Abul Kalam, who is an employee of Grameen Bank, is travelling with his wife on a motorcycle to go home.
He said: "I am taking my wife with me to go home during the Eid holidays. We are waiting for the bridge to be clear to cross. Like me, hundreds of motorcyclists are waiting to cross the bridge."
Motorcyclists said that on the first day of the holidays, the highways were empty, and it was easy to reach their destination without any hassle.
Bangabandhu Bridge Executive Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel said a long queue of motorcycles was seen on the bridge approach road since the early hours of Wednesday.
An additional toll booth has been set up for motorcycles to reduce traffic congestion, he added.
