The Department of Environment (DoE) filed a case against the local ward councillor and three engineers of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) six days after the death of a labourer due to a landslide in Akbarshah area of the city.
Assistant Director of the DoE Hasan Ahmed filed the case with city's Akbarshah police station on Tuesday night, confirmed Wali Uddin Akbar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Akbarshah police station.
The accused in the case are -- Executive Engineer and Project Director of the CCC Abu Sadat Mohammad Taib, its Deputy Project Director Jasim Uddin, Senior Sub-Assistant Engineer Wali Ahmed, Omar Faruk and Takia Begum of contracting firm AB Haque Brothers, Councillor of Ward No-9 Juhural Alam Jasim and Mohammad Ismail.
The labourer was killed and three others were injured in a landslide during the construction of a road along with retaining wall as part of a project run by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) with the financial support of ADB in Beltali Ghona of Akbarshah Police Station last Friday afternoon (April 7).
Earlier, victim's wife filed a wrongful death case at Akbarshah thana as the plaintiff. Three days after the case, the DoE also filed another case, the OC confirmed.
