The government has decided to continue the anti-mosquito drives in all city corporations across Bangladesh till December this year, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Md Tajul Islam has said.
“The government has taken maximum measures for mosquito control and mosquito-borne diseases,” said the minister at a meeting with city corporation mayors in Dhaka on Sunday.
He added: “Bangladesh has a lower number of people infected by Aedes mosquitoes and fewer deaths caused by dengue compared to other countries.”
“From the months of Ashar to Ashwin, the city corporation's 10 zones will be under mobile court surveillance to control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes. Additionally, a special operation will be carried out at the residences of dengue patients,” said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said: "The canals in Chittagong are not clean and there is constant waterlogging. Therefore, the prevalence of mosquitoes is high in this region.”
However, the mayor claimed that they have sufficient manpower and equipment to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
