Three days after the devastating fire that ripped through Dhaka's Bangabazar markets, smoke continues to rise from the debris.
There was a small fire visible on the right side of the Annexco Tower in Bangabazar at around 4pm on Friday.
Apart from that, smoke was still seen rising from several locations in the burnt-down markets.
Mubarak who came from Dhaka South City Corporation to clean the market place said that small fires could still be seen in some places.
“It is also difficult to clean the area due to the heat of the fire. It has been possible to an area of the market from 11am to 5pm. It will take three to four more days to clear the market.”
The authorities have fully extinguished a fire that broke out at the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market on Tuesday.
Dhaka TribuneThe work of dousing the fire was completed at about 9:30am on Friday, Fire Service and Civil Defence official Shajahan Sikder confirmed.
The devastating blaze burned around 5,000 shops to the ground.
Bangladesh Shop Owners Association claims that the damage caused by the fire is approximately Tk2,000 crore, seeking an initial allocation of Tk700 crore from the government.
Eight members of the fire service were injured – two of them critically – while trying to douse the fire.
The fire service said a lack of water supply, strong winds and overzealous crowds had hampered its work.
