While many people in Bangladesh felt sorry and the Tourist Police arrested an old man for harassing Australian vlogger Luke Damant on the streets of Dhaka, some netizens have expressed discontent after finding that the tourist loves to make videos of slandering poor people in many countries, terming him rude.
His latest video of an old man, who is an interpreter, trying to assist him and seeking money in Karwan Bazar area made headlines on Monday as he gave a striking caption for the video “Avoid This Man in Bangladesh” and the Tourist Police detained the man, Abdul Kalu, to teach him a good lesson.
The tourist said he had visited Bangladesh five times. This time, he reached Dhaka on March 20 and was happy to experience “low cost” street foods, including sugarcane juice, egg sandwich, tea, fuchka, jhalmuri, and boat ride.
His videos, made with the help of local guides, highlight how cheap these foods and services are.
He also tried a launch trip and tasted peanuts and pineapple juice, and went to a barber shop. He also got his bag fixed by an “honest man”, who got a reward, according to his latest video uploaded on Tuesday.
He earlier posted similar videos on his bad experiences in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and other countries, aa seen in his Facebook videos.
He alerted netizens about a “horse scam” in Pakistan and Indonesia, an auto-rickshaw driver in Sri Lanka, a bird seed seller in India, and a corn seller in Egypt.
The old man, Abdul Kalu, was arrested for harassing and asking money from Luke Damant, was freed with a Tk200 fine on Monday evening. Earlier, he was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On the Facebook post, the Tourist Police posted the photo of Abdul Kalu and wrote: “That man has been arrested. We always welcome our guests and foreign tourists to our beautiful Bangladesh.”

Several videos of the Australian YouTuber went viral on social media. In one of these videos, Kalu is seen asking him for financial help while expressing his interest to guide him. Even though Luke requested him to leave several times, he continued to follow him.
Luke Damant was very upset with his behaviour. He recorded the conversation while walking the streets of Karwan Bazar and posted the video on his Facebook account.
Many Bangladeshi netizens apologized to him for the awkward experience he had. After his release from custody, Kaku claimed to have helped many foreigners. However, he apologized for harassing Luke Damant.
After the detention of Kalu, the vlogger said: “My time so far in Bangladesh has been incredible, but in every country, there will always be a few bad seeds. These few individuals don't represent the millions of kind-hearted, hospitable and caring Bengalis,” he continued.
At last, he requested everyone not to hurt or say anything mean to the elderly man by saying that everyone makes mistakes in life.
