Prothom Alo journalist Samsuzzaman Shams was freed from jail on bail on Monday evening.
He walked out of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at 6:22pm after the bail order reached the jail authorities.
Subhash Kumar Ghosh, Jail Super of Keraniganj Central Jail, said: “We received the bail order around 4pm and he walked out of jail around 6:22pm.”
Family members of Shams received him from the jail gate.
Earlier, a Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to Prothom Alo journalist Samsuzzaman Shams in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA) over publishing a report on March 26.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor granted the bail on a Tk20,000 bond till the filing of the police report, Shams' lawyer Prashant Karmakar confirmed.
There is no legal bar for his release if he is not shown arrested in another case filed with Tejgaon Police Station, the lawyer said.
This is the second time Samsuzzaman applied for bail.
Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, working in Savar near the capital Dhaka, was picked up from his house in the Ambagan area near Jahangirnagar University in the early hours of Wednesday by the CID for allegedly publishing fake and fabricated news.
Later, he was sued under the DSA on the same day and a Dhaka court sent him to jail on Thursday rejecting his bail plea.
