Jasmine Sultana's death was not due to torture in RAB's custody, but due to brain haemorrhage, said Professor Dr Kafil Uddin, head of Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of Rajshahi Medical College, on Monday.
He said that she died of excessive bleeding to the head and the injuries found in the corner of the head and hand are not fatal.
Dr Kafil said that after receiving the autopsy report of Sultana Jasmine's body, three members of the forensic department sat down. They reviewed those reports and gave a specific opinion in this regard. The post-mortem report was then handed over to the police on Sunday afternoon.
He also said: “After the arrest, Jasmine had a brain haemorrhage due to mental stress. And because of this she died. But we found two injuries on her body which were very small. One of those is a small cut on the left side of the forehead. Besides, there was a swollen wound on the inner side of the right elbow which could be from cannulating her during treatment.”
“Thus, in the final post-mortem report of Jasmine's body, we have said – these two injuries are not sufficient for death. She died of brain haemorrhage due to 'shock' (mental stress),” he added.
On Sunday afternoon, Dr Kafil handed over the post-mortem report of Jasmine to the police.
Earlier on March 22, RAB arrested land office employee Sultana Jasmine in Naogaon after Joint Secretary Enamul Haque, working in the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's office, filed a complaint. After four hours of the arrest, RAB took Jasmine to Naogaon Sadar Hospital when she fell ill. From there she was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. She died there on March 24.
