The Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police on Saturday arrested an active member of the banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam.
The arrestee has been identified as Abdur Rahman, 36, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Aslam Khan of the ATU headquarters (Media & Awareness) said on Sunday morning.
Rahman was arrested in a raid conducted by ATU in Patuakhali on Saturday, the official said.
The SP noted for the past five to six years, Rahman had been promoting extremism, terrorism, and the ideology of Jasim Uddin Rahmani, the leader of Ansar-al Islam, using multiple IDs on Facebook.
Four mobile phones, six sim cards, three SD cards, two extremist books, and 78 pages of digital evidence were seized from the arrestee's procession.
A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act has been filed against Abdur Rahman for conspiring to commit crimes, and inciting others to commit terrorist acts, said the ATU official.
