RAB forms probe committee to investigate Noagaon woman’s death in custody

RAB claims it detained her for interrogation on fraud charges and that it found evidence of abnormal transactions in her bank account

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has formed a probe committee to investigate the death of a land office staff member Sultana Jasmine in RAB custody.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's legal and media wing, informed this at a press conference organized at the RAB media centre in Kawran Bazar of the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

He said someone using the name and title of joint secretary Enamul Haque, opened a Facebook ID and grabbed money by giving jobs to various people. In this incident, Enamul Haque filed a general diary at the police station in March 2022.

Later, names of two people – Al Amin and Sultana Jasmine came in the fraud.

The victim, Sultana Jasmine, 45, died three days after she had been detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Naogaon town on Wednesday. She died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.

Sultana Jasmine was an office assistant at the land office of Chandipur union of Naogaon Sadar upazila.

RAB claimed that they detained her for interrogation on charges of fraud, and that they had found evidence of abnormal transactions in her bank account.

Later, she fell sick and died. Quoting doctors, RAB said she had a stroke.
