Hundreds of passengers were suffering as a 15-kilometre-long tailback was created on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Friday, resulting in a slow movement of vehicles.
The tailback was seen stretching from the Kanchpur to Meghna toll plaza following the heavy pressure of vehicles.
Afzal Hossain who is travelling to Comilla with his friends said: “I have been stuck in traffic since coming to the Kanchpur area around 10.30am due to excessive traffic on the route. From an hour and a half, the bus has been able to move only a little bit.”
Kanchpur Highway police station Officer-in-Charge of (OC) SM Abul Kashem Azad said: “The congestion started this morning. About 15-20 km of tailback was created from Kanchpur to Meghna Toll Plaza on the highway. We are making efforts to reduce the traffic congestion.”
Asked about the cause of the traffic, he said: “The pressure of vehicles is always high on holidays. This is why traffic has been created. There is no other reason.”
