Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's grandson Radwan Mujib Siddiq placing floral wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, at Dhanmondi 32 on March 7 has remained a hot topic in political arena over the week.

The issue has now been raised at the press briefing on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

Radwan placed the floral wreaths on behalf of PM Hasina, as she was on a state visit between March 4 and 8 in Doha, Qatar to attend the fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5).

There was a rumour in the air as the picture went viral where Radwan was placing a wreath alone at Dhanmondi 32, and he was surrounded by the senior leaders of Awami League and cabinet members of the government in a parallel row.

While replying to a question of journalist Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul whether Radwan's appearance on behalf of the premier was a political surprise, the daughter of Bangabandhu rejected such rumour.

She said: “Not for any political purpose or out of any political ambition but Radwan was there on behalf of our family.

“As you have observed, a total of five children of Sheikh Rehena and mine are working for the people of Bangladesh. They do not have that kind of political ambition. Also, they are not members of our party,” said Sheikh Hasina, also president of ruling Awami League.

“The initiative like Young Bangla, Startup Bangladesh, CRI and autism related works they are doing only for the sake of the welfare of the people of this country,” the premier went on saying.

Mentionable, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana are the only childrens of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who are alive, as all other children of Bangabandhu were killed on August 15, 1971 along with him.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul are the children of Premier Sheikh Hasina where Radwan Mujib Siddiq, Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq are the children of Sheikh Rehana.
