The family members of the two brothers, who were stabbed to death allegedly by their uncle and cousins in the Kanchpur area of Narayanganj, and locals on Friday afternoon blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway demanding justice over the murder.
They protested from 2pm to 3pm, causing a 2.5km gridlock on the highway.
Later, officers from the Sonargaon police station and Kanchpur highway police moved the protesters from the highway and lifted the blockade.
Kanchpur highway police Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Abul Kashem Azad said the protesters had blocked the highway and formed a human chain. “It created a 2.5km gridlock from Kanchpur to Madanpur.”
During the protest, Sonia Akhter, the wife of Aslam Sani, who was killed, said: "Nobody should become a widow like me. So we all want the murderers to be hanged. I request everyone to stand by my side.”
Sadia Akhter, the wife of Rafiqul Islam, who was injured in the same incident, said: "These killers are still fugitives. No one's life is guaranteed if they are outside. They can attack us at any time.”
In this regard, Sonargaon police station OC Mahbub Alam said: "We are working round the clock on this case. Already one person has been arrested, and we are working to arrest the rest of the accused.”
On February 26, two siblings were stabbed to death allegedly by their uncle and cousins.
One other sibling, Rafiqul Islam, suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized in the same incident.
The deceased were identified as Aslam Sani, 48, and his younger brother and Shafiqul Islam Rony, 28, sons of late Sanaullah of Panchpara area in Kanchpur union.
Quoting locals, police said the victims and their uncle had a long-standing dispute over a piece of land.
The renovation work under the government finance of a drain in front of their house was going on. Aslam and his brothers locked into an altercation with his uncle Mohiuddin and his son Mostafa over the renovation work.
At one stage, Mohiuddin and his son Mostafa along with some others attacked Aslam and his brothers with lethal weapons.
