Doctors from March would be allowed to practice at private chambers in separate shifts in government hospitals.
The fee per patient has been proposed at Tk150-300 at a meeting, Saidur Rahman, additional secretary of the Health Services Division and head of the policy formulation committee on Thursday.
The program was introduced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in January.
He said that more meetings are needed to implement the program. “We want the program to start in March.”
Earlier on January 22, Health and Family Welfare Minister Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that from March, doctors of government hospitals and medical colleges will be allowed to practice privately in their respective institutions.
According to the draft of the “Institutional Practice Guidelines”, patients can visit specialist doctors (professors, associate professors, and assistant professors) for Tk300 and MBBS doctors for Tk150.
A part of the doctor's fee will be deposited in the government fund for the infrastructure of the government hospitals.
According to the draft policy, doctors will initially see patients from 3pm to 6pm. However, the health ministry plans to set the time till 7pm.
Professors, associate professors, and assistant professors will see patients every two days on a roster basis. The patients have to buy tickets from 2:30pm to 5pm to get appointments with the doctors.
As a senior doctor's fee will be Tk300, the doctor would get Tk200 from the fee, while their assistant will get Tk50. The remaining Tk50 will be deposited in the fund.
Meanwhile, a junior doctor will get Tk100 from the fee and their assistant will get Tk25. The remaining Tk25 will be deposited.
