Book lovers on Friday flocked to the comic book stores at the book fair to explore and purchase the most recent issues, demonstrating their immense popularity.

According to Ashik, a salesperson for Dhaka Comic, the “Durjoy” and “Lungiman” comic book series are their top sellers.

“Durjoy” follows the story of a vigilante who takes on the seedy underworld. It caters to an adult audience, tackling mature themes such as crime, corruption and the darker side of human nature. While the storyline follows the classic tropes of a hero fighting against crime, it takes a more nuanced approach, exploring the psychological toll such a life can take on a person.

Meanwhile, “Lungiman” features bright, bold illustrations and modern humour that will have children laughing out loud.

The characters are diverse and relatable, with unique personalities and quirks that make them stand out.

Tasin Hossain, a ninth-grader, told Dhaka Tribune: "I found the name ‘Lungiman' very fascinating, and the fact that it's about a superhero who wears a lungi adds to the fascination even more. It's a unique and creative concept that caught my attention, and I couldn't help buying it.”

The market for comic books has historically been dominated by superhero stories, but there is a rising trend toward stories about regular people who have remarkable experiences.
