Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday inaugurated the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 at the Bangla Academy premises in the capital.
The fair was opened to visitors immediately after the prime minister’s announcement in the afternoon. The theme of this year’s fair is “Multidimensional Bangladesh.”
The month-long fair will continue until March 15. It will remain open from 2pm to 9pm on working days and from 11am to 9pm on weekly holidays. Entry will close at 8:30pm.
A total of 549 publishing houses are participating in this year’s fair — 81 at the Bangla Academy premises and 468 at the Suhrawardy Udyan section. In total, 1,018 units have been allocated.
There are 87 little magazine stalls at the Little Magazine Square located near the open stage at Suhrawardy Udyan. Additionally, 63 organisations are taking part in the Children’s Square.
Thematic seminars will be held on the main stage daily at 3pm, followed by cultural programs at 4pm. A “Children’s Hour” will be arranged every Friday and Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken comprehensive security measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the fair.
