Hasan asks Betar to air peace-inspiring programs

The radio has to give a message of peace to overcome the current turmoil in the world, says the information minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday asked the officials of Bangladesh Betar to write and air programs being inspired with peace and humanity focusing on this year's theme of the World Radio Day 'Radio and Peace'.

The minister made the call while addressing a discussion at Bangladesh Betar headquarters in the city's Agargaon area this evening. 

Bangladesh Betar organized the discussion and cultural function marking the World Radio Day.

Hasan said the world is now going through a crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequently Russia-Ukraine war. The radio has to give a message of peace to overcome the current turmoil in the world, he added.

The minister said: "We should raise the flag of humanity as our affection and empathy are not lost. I think the radio needs to take the role."

The minister said Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra had played a pivotal role in inspiring freedom-lover people and freedom fighters of the country during the great Liberation War. It also played an important role in building the nation after the independence, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker and Head of UNESCO Dhaka office Susan Maree Vize addressed the discussion as special guests with Bangladesh Betar director general Nasrullah Md Irfan in the chair.

Later, a cultural function led by Dance Director Hasna Fitria Fahmida was held. Artistes Purna Chandra Roy, Pallabi Sarker Malati, Alok Sen, Tasmina Chowdhury Orin and Nazu Akhandh, among others, took part.

Earlier, a rally was held to mark the day. 

Information Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker inaugurated the rally.
