Information Minister and Joint General Secretary of Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud declared that Awami League leaders and activists will maintain their presence in the field until the elections, aiming to counter BNP's ill politics.
He made this statement while visiting injured party leaders and activists who were receiving treatment at Crescent Hospital in the capital's Uttara Saturday night.
The minister said: "As BNP failed to create chaos on Friday, they attacked our party members on Saturday during a peaceful procession. They burned around 60 buses, attacked police cars, and set fire to cars near Uttara at night. It's evident that they are resorting to arson tactics similar to 2014-15."
He added: "Several leaders and activists of Awami League and affiliated organizations are currently under treatment at the hospital. Among them, BNP supporters attempted to harm Jubo League activist Mohibur Rahman Nayan from Uttara Ward No 47, almost severing his wrist. Doctors are making desperate efforts to save him."
Additionally, Hasan Mahmud mentioned the names of other injured local activists who were receiving treatment in various hospitals, including Lincoln Kumar Das, Ismail Hossain Deep, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Babu, Zahirul Islam, Ashiq Miraj, Nahid Hasan, Mamun, Maharaj, Akash, and others.
The joint general secretary of Awami League stated: "On Saturday, BNP aimed to block or seize the entrance to the capital with the intention of creating chaos in the country. Dhaka, with its population of 20 million, cannot be subjected to such blockades."
Hasan further remarked: "BNP's goal is not to participate in elections, but rather to fuel conflict and hand over the country to foreign interests. As citizens of this nation, we cannot allow that to happen. Awami League leaders and activists will continue to be present in the field until the elections, countering BNP's disruptive politics, and mobilizing the people to resist them."
