“Everything is Allah's will,” Md Shahabuddin , who is set to be the next president of Bangladesh, said on Sunday.
“There is no reaction now. This is Almighty Allah's will,” Md Shahabuddin told reporters after submitting his nomination paper at the Election Commission.
Md Shahabuddin, a retired district and sessions judge, had served as a commissioner at the Anti-Corruption Commission.
“Two applications have been submitted to the office of the Chief Election Commissioner and Presidential Election Officer at 11:00am and 11:05am. These two applications will be scrutinized on Monday at 1pm. The chief election officer will inform you tomorrow after scrutinizing the nomination papers,” said Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam.
Awami League leader Md Shahabuddin is all set to become the next occupant of Bangabhaban as the 19th president of Bangladesh.
The Awami League Parliamentary Party had nominated Shahabuddin , a former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, a retired district and sessions judge, and a freedom fighter, to run for president, General Secretary Obaidul Quader told the media on Sunday.
The deadline for the submission ended at 4pm, and Mohammed Shahabuddin became the president-elect by default as no other party had picked a candidate for the election.
According to the schedule, the presidential election will be held on February 19 as the tenure of incumbent President Abdul Hamid nears an end. The final date for submitting nomination papers was Sunday and those will be reviewed on Monday, as per the Election Commission.
The commission set Tuesday as the final date for withdrawing nominations.
