Update : 02 Feb 2023, 08:21 PM

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has ordered officials to verify the allegations made by Ashraful Hossen Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, in Bogra-4 by-polls.

The order was given to Bogra's Senior Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Mahmud Hasan over the phone on Thursday morning.

The election officer said after watching Hero Alom's allegations live on a television channel, the CEC asked to verify the matter.

He added that they verified the results, and they came out the same as the one declared earlier.

Besides, the results of the seats have been printed and sent to the CEC, he added.

Alom, who was contesting the elections to Bogra-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) and Bogra-6 (Bogra Sadar), was ahead in the Bogra-4 by-election for the majority of vote counting. However, when the final result of all 112 centres was announced, it was found that Hero Alom was defeated by a narrow margin.

In this regard, he held a press conference at his home in Bogra at 10:30pm on Wednesday. There, he rejected the results of the vote and said: "Votes were not stolen, the results are manipulated.”

He also said that he would go to the High Court to get justice.

Alom bagged 19,571 votes while his closest rival Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal candidate AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen got 20,405 votes, according to unofficial results.
