Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said that doctors must practice (see patients) at the government hospitals where they work from March 1.
“This Institutional Practice program will begin from March 1,” the minister said during a press conference at the Secretariat.
Vice-chancellors of various medical universities, leaders of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), and senior officials were present at the press conference.
The minister said patients will get better medical care once the Institutional Practice program gets underway. “Doctors will be provided with more facilities as well.”
“Our weak point is the upazila hospitals. The government is trying to improve the facilities in them. The upazila hospitals will be provided with necessary manpower and equipment,” said the health minister.
Regarding kidney and liver transplants at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, Maleque said: “From now on, Bangladeshi doctors will be able to perform kidney and liver transplants. People will not have to go abroad for them. It is a success for our medical sector.”
