The members of the West Sundarban SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) patrol team of the Forest Department, while conducting security patrols, arrested four Indian fishermen along with a trawler while fishing illegally in Bangladesh waters.
The arrested fishermen are Sujit Mondal, 45, Anup Majumder, 45, Gaurang Mondal, 40, and Shankar Howlader, 48.
Around 6am on Thursday, the forest personnel led by Chief Kachikata Forest Station Officer (SO) Nirmal Kumar of the SMART patrol team arrested the fishermen from Mandarbaria area outside the Sundarbans.
Meanwhile, the team also seized a trawler and fishing nets used by the fishermen.
Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) AKM Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury said that the arrested fishermen will be sent to the Satkhira court under the Forest Act.
