The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formed a two-member team to investigate the allegations of Wasa Managing Director Taksim A Khan's purchase of 14 houses in the United States.
A senior ACC official, who asked not to be named, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the allegations received by the ACC, Taksim has stolen a huge amount of money from large foreign loan-funded projects for 13 years, smuggled them to the US in various ways, and purchased 14 luxury houses and several cars.
On Tuesday, theee Wasa MD at a press conference in the capital said: "The news about my 14 houses in the United States is completely false. Out of the 14 houses mentioned, five were rented by my family at various times. Another house is in the name of my wife. I, my wife, and children are all US citizens.”
In view of the press conference, the ACC official said: “We have received a complaint, and now we will investigate. Actions will be taken accordingly.”
On Monday, the High Court sought an update from the ACC over the investigations into two complaints against the Wasa MD's houses in the US. The ACC was given 15 days to file a progress report.
