The Election Commission has recommended taking departmental action against 133 election officials including the returning officer involved in irregularities in Gaibandha-5 constituencies.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said this at a press briefing at the commission office in the capital's Agargaon on Thursday.
Others involved include 125 presiding officers, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sushant Kumar Saha, a nirbahi officer and five police officers.
Besides, the polling agents of 145 election centres, where irregularities have occurred, will not be able to perform duties in any future election.
The CEC made the recommendation in the context of the investigation report on the irregularities in the Gaibandha-5 by-elections. However, no action was recommended against the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police as the allegations of involvement in any irregularity were not proved.
Besides, no action was recommended against any of the candidates as the allegations of direct involvement in irregularities were not proved.
