Five police officers who were on duty when two death row militants escaped from the premises of a Dhaka court have been temporarily suspended, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said.
The suspended police officers are CMM Court Jail Inspector Matiur Rahman, SI Nahidur Rahman Bhuiya, ATSI Mohiuddin, Constable Sharif Hasan, and Abdus Sattar.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Prosecution Division of DMP Jashim Uddin confirmed the matter to the media on Monday.
He said DMP is probing the incident to identify the individuals behind the incident.
Meanwhile, in a case filed by police at the capital's Kotwali police station, sacked army major Syed Ziaul Haque is accused of being the mastermind behind the snatching of the militants.
The case also said that the two militants were professionally trained by Ansar-al-Islam, according to media reports.
The escapees are Md Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab and Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran.
They are members of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam, who were sentenced to death in Jagriti Publications publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case.
Police earlier announced Tk10 lakh for information on each of them.
Publisher Dipan, son of Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq of Dhaka University, was hacked to death in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh in the city on October 31, 2015.
