Cyclone Sitrang: Sea still rough, maritime ports asked to hoist cautionary signal number 3

Sitrang currently lies in Dhaka-Comilla-Brahmanbaria and adjoining areas

Maritime ports have been asked to hoist local cautionary signal no three, as Cyclonic storm Sitrang completed crossing the Barishal-Chittagong coast near Bhola on Monday night.

The storm has weakened rapidly into a depression, but officials said the sea is still rough, reports Bangla Tribune.

Sitrang currently lies in Dhaka-Comilla-Brahmanbaria and adjoining areas as a land depression, and is expected to movetowards Assam through Dhaka-Comilla-Brahmanbaria and its adjoining areas. 

Hence, the maritime ports of Mongla, Payra, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar have been advised to lower danger signals no 7 and 6, and hoist local cautionary signal no 3.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

Under the influence of new moon phase and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Baristial, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 03-05 feet above normal astronomical tide, reports BMD.
