Members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have allegedly broken the arms of a Bangladeshi farmer along Chapainawabganj border.
The incident took place in the district’s Shibganj upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The injured, 70-year-old Islam Ali, is a resident of the Monakasha union.
Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has written to BSF protesting the incident. BSF has also been warned not to repeat such incidents at the border during a flag meeting held on Thursday, said BGB-53 Captain Lt Col Md Nahid Hossain.
He said that the BGB learned about the incident through the injured farmer’s family.
A local businessman said Ali was working in his paddy field at around 2pm on Wednesday. At that time, some six to seven BSF members from Daulatpur camp illegally entered Bangladesh and beat Ali with their rifles.
They broke both his arms, and left him on the spot, he added.
Later, locals rushed him to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
In this regard, Serajul Islam, member of Monakasha Union Parishad, said that BSF members often enter Bangladesh and torture farmers.
