In Bangladesh, the prevalence of breast cancer has been rising alarmingly in recent years

Update : 10 Oct 2022, 08:42 PM

A seminar on breast cancer awareness and the launch of the BScan app were jointly hosted on Monday by the Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems Lab (AIMS Lab) of United International University (UIU) and the ICT Division of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

For the first time in Bangladesh, a breast cancer screening protocol was created as part of this project, according to a press release issued on Monday.

The "CanAware" project, carried out in collaboration with Professor MA Hai and other cancer experts, is an interactive system for cancer awareness. It is funded by the Innovation Fund of the AIIMS Lab, CMED Health, and Community Oncology Centre.

The goal of the website "www.canaware.org" and the mobile app "BScan" is breast cancer screening, awareness raising, referral to qualified medical professionals/hospitals, and counseling.

In Bangladesh, the prevalence of breast cancer has been rising alarmingly in recent years. Late discovery lowers the likelihood of survival and raises the cost of therapy. Early identification can reduce breast cancer fatalities. Each and every person in Bangladesh can access primary breast cancer screening services by utilizing the "BScan" app.

NM Ziaul Alam PAA, senior secretary, ICT Division, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest.

Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem, vice-chancellor (in-charge), UIU, Prof Dr MA Hai, director, Bangladesh Cancer Hospital and Welfare Home, Prof Dr Ferdousi Begum, president, Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB), among other professors, administrators, academics, government representatives, researchers, and other important visitors from various Bangladeshi organizations attended the session.
