‘Spider-man’ arrested in Mymensingh

He was involved in at least 500 thefts, according to police

Md Billal Hossain, 22, gained the nickname “Spider-man” for his ability to effortlessly climb multi-storied buildings. He joined a gang when he was just 12 and given his slim build, he was made to climb up tall buildings to open the door for his accomplices. As soon as he became an expert, Billal left ‘Saiful Gang,’ and started his own. 

According to police, in the past 10 years, Billal was part of over 5,00 thefts. 

Police arrested Billal and his accomplice Md Nurullah Rakib, 20, from Mymensingh while investigating a case of theft. 

They recovered several stolen items and gear for stealing from Rakib and Billal during the arrest. 

According to Uttara West Zone Police OC Mohammad Mohsin said that on September 23, a theft was reported from the NovoAir flight operations office on Sector-3. 

After Billal and Rakib were arrested, a stolen laptop from the office and gears to cut grills were found in their possession. 

According to police Billal is able to climb tall buildings without any stairs. Moreover, he can climb up the walls or pipes till at least the fifth-storey of a building. 

The target of his ring is usually offices which mostly remain empty at night and their goal is to mainly steal laptops, OC Mohsin said. 

He added that sometimes when they cannot find a buyer, the laptops are sold for anywhere between Tk 200 to Tk2,000.

Police say that there are around 10 more men who are part of his ring now. 

OC Mohsin said that they are giving priority to who bought laptops from Billal and the police is trying to identify them.

Moreover, police is looking into who else is involved and they will be brought to book, he added.
