Saaf Championship winner Ritu Porna Chakma has been hospitalized after suffering a head injury during the the team's open-top bus parade in Dhaka.
The incident took place when a billboard hit Ritu Porna’s head in Banani area of the capital, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Executive Saeed Hasan told Bangla Tribune.
She was taken to CMH immediately after the incident. She needed three stitches on her head.
Later Ritu Porna joined the team celebration at BFF office in the evening.
Saeed Hasan said: “Ritu Porna was standing with her other playmates on the bus while a sharp edge of a wooden banner or a metal object struck her in the forehead causing injury. Currently she is stable.”
The Tigresses reached Dhaka airport at 1:45pm on Wednesday and the parade started a couple of hours later.
On both sides of the road and in front there was huge crowd praising and celebrating the return of the champions.
The captain of the team, Sabina Khatun, at a press briefing at the airport dedicated the trophy to the 180 million people of Bangladesh, before thanking everyone concerned for the enthusiastic welcome and said the whole team was grateful for it.
