Bangladesh must resort to austerity to avert any further turbulence in the local market amid the global crisis, says Mannan

Update : 17 Sep 2022, 09:30 PM

Prices of daily essentials have come down already and they will come down further, Planning Minister MA Mannan has said.

He noted that there is a worldwide crisis going on and the people of Bangladesh must resort to austerity to avert any further turbulence in the local market.

The minister was speaking at a program in Sylhet on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi had said that the government will set the prices of nine essential commodities in line with prices in the international market within seven days.

The move is aimed at curbing unethical business practices, Tipu Munshi said.

Referring to the upcoming polls, the Planning Minister said on Saturday that the government wants the participation of all parties in the elections. He added that the BNP should also join the polls if it respects the constitution of the country.

“Elections are a matter of practice and not of fighting,” he said.

The nation expects a peaceful election, he added.

On a different note, the minister said that the haor areas are always neglected but the science and technology university in Sunamganj will create a big impact among the local residents.

He said that land has already been allocated for the construction of Sunamganj Science and Technology University.
