State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Tuesday said all filling stations of the country are being brought under a GPS mapping system.
He made the remark as a chief guest at a review meeting regarding the layout, design and model prepared for the new filling station in the light of the GPS location-based filling station management system and existing policies at the Secretariat.
It was informed in the meeting that through GPS tracking, it will be possible to monitor the location, transaction, stock and service quality of any filling station online in real-time.
The state minister said: “Filling station activities should be monitored to prevent adulteration of fuel oil. The initiative to update the overall status of filling stations with GPS location was necessary. Arrangements can be made to link it to the ERP map of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).”

For this, BPC was directed to make a list and GPS location of petrol pumps, which was submitted to the Energy Division recently,” he added.
Nasrul Hamid also said that the ministry is bringing all the filling stations of the country under the GPS mapping system with the aim of modernizing the fuel sector.
“The initiative to make the filling station quality and attractive must be implemented quickly. It is advisable to keep the wash block clean and adequate. Monitoring should be strengthened through modern technology to strengthen the fuel oil sales network,” he observed.
It was informed in the meeting that BPC took the initiative to set up a model filling station on the occasion of Mujib Borsho. But only three model filling stations have been set up across the country.
Senior Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department Mahbub Hossain, Chairman of BPC ABM Azad, Managing Director of Padma Oil Company Abu Saleh Iqbal along with heads of related departments were present at the meeting.
According to sources, there are a total of 2,297 filling stations in the country.
