Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a reduction in the price of jet fuel used by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and other airlines, following several rounds of price hikes in recent months.
According to a BERC notification, the new prices will take effect from midnight on Thursday.
Most recently, on April 7, the price of jet fuel was increased by nearly Tk 25 per litre. Earlier on March 24, the price had been raised by Tk 90 per litre.
Under the latest adjustment, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been reduced by Tk 22.35 per litre, bringing the rate down from Tk 227.08 to Tk 205.45 per litre.
Fuel prices for international flights have also been lowered. The price of jet fuel has been cut from $1.4806 per litre to $1.3385 per litre.
BERC said the latest revision was made in consideration of the average published Platts rate for Jet A-1 fuel in the international market between April 5 and May 4. The commission adjusted the consumer-level prices for both domestic and international flights under the authority granted by the BERC Act.
