A total of 15,02,400 doses of the first batch of Pfizer vaccine, which is specially formulated for children between the ages of five and 11, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning.
Shamsul Haq, member secretary of the Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), confirmed the matter to media.
He said that the country will receive about 40 million doses of the Covid vaccine in stages.
According to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), earlier, children between the ages of 12 and 17 were given the Covid vaccine in schools.
On Thursday, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued an order regarding the vaccination of students aged five to 11 years in the country.
According to the order, the government has decided to vaccinate students between the mentioned age as part of a series of activities to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
