15 sent to jail over Buet student Sunny’s death

Earlier on Saturday, the accused were put on a three-day remand

A Dhaka court has sent 15 men to jail in a case filed over the death of Bangladesh University of Engineering (Buet) student Tariquzzaman Sunny.

The court of Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order on Tuesday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The accused are Shariful Hossain, 31, Shakil Ahmed, 30, Sezan Ahmed, 30, Mohammad Rubel, 37, Md Sajib, 33, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, 38, Md Nasir, 37, Md Maruf, 32, Md Ashraful Alam, 28, Md Jahangir Hossain Ripon, 46, Mohammad Noman, 32, Mohammad Jahid, 32, ATM Shahriar Momin, 30, Md Maruful Haque, 34, and Rokonuzzaman Jitu, 28.

Earlier on Saturday, the 15 accused were put on a three-day remand to investigate more about the incident, said police.

Md Hasanuzzaman, the victim's elder brother, filed the case with Dohar police station.

Police said that Sunny went missing in the Padma river while taking a selfie with his friends at Moinot Ghat in Dhaka’s Dohar upazila on July 14. 

The following day, members of the Fire Service fished out his body around 11am.
