Pakistan PM congratulates Bangladesh on Padma Bridge inauguration

Padma Bridge important landmark in development journey of Bangladesh, says Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh on the completion of the Padma Bridge.

In a letter to Sheikh Hasina on Friday, he said: “I wish to extend our sincere felicitations to Your Excellency and the people of Bangladesh on the completion of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project.”

Sharif termed the inauguration of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge an important landmark in the development journey of Bangladesh.

“It is also a testament to Your Excellency's strong resolve to carry forward Bangladesh into a phase of inclusive and sustained growth,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to convey my personal best wishes for Your Excellency’s good health and happiness and for ever-increasing progress and prosperity of the brotherly people of Bangladesh,” Sharif added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge with great fanfare at noon on Saturday.

The inauguration of the 6.15-kilometre bridge took place at its Mawa point in Munshiganj.

Earlier, the prime minister joined and addressed a mammoth public rally in Kathalbari where the organizers had set up a huge stage. The authorities, as part of the preparation to welcome her, had set up hundreds of archways and decorated roads leading up to Zajira from Kathalbari with colourful posters.
