Awami League condemns Pakistan PM remarks on Bangabandhu

‘They are not ashamed of the genocide committed during the Liberation War’

Update : 23 Aug 2024, 10:01 PM

Awami League has condemned and protested Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Liberation War.

The party has claimed that Shehbaz's statements are disrespectful towards the Liberation War and the three million martyrs, and they have insinuated that Shehbaz Sharif has a hand in the recent spree of destruction of monuments of independence.

The party's Joint General Secretary, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, made these remarks in a statement sent to the media on Friday.

He said in the statement: “The language in which Shehbaz Sharif has mocked our nation's struggle, it is not only the duty of the Awami League or the people of this country but the duty of the state of Bangladesh to protest against this.”

Bahauddin Nasim added: “Shehbaz Sharif's remarks have proven that they are not ashamed of the genocide they conducted in this country during the Liberation War. They repeatedly try to belittle the independence of this country. The recent vandalism conducted to destroy the memorials of independence in this country has been influenced by Shehbaz Sharif and his cohorts.”

He further said: “History bears witness. The people of Bengal have repeatedly defeated the Pakistani conspirators and their local allies. These conspirators will not succeed in the future either. The forces that were established through the Liberation War will prevail in Bangladesh.”
