The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) has organized a seminar on “Industry-Academia Dialogue”.

It was held at the university’s auditorium on Saturday, said a press release on Sunday.

Dr Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, managing director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, was present in the seminar as the chief guest while Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, chairman of Board of Trustees of CUB, chaired the session.

Prof Dr HM Jahirul Haque, vice-chancellor of CUB, was present in the program as the session co-chair.

Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat said: "This is the age of the fourth industrial revolution and our country is in the process of digitalization under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The ICT department, A2I and other relevant Government departments as well as the private sector are making a huge contribution.

"We inspire applied knowledge on how to apply for start-up funds, and open a consulting agency for freelancing and outsourcing so that they can be the next generation of smart entrepreneurs. Now it is high time to get connections with other industries in the market on both national and international platforms.”

Dr Bikarna Kumar Ghosh said: "We didn't have anything called broadband before. Now, broadband is available to 120 million people across Bangladesh. In total, our investment was $25 million which is now about $1.5 billion.”

He mentioned that the word freelancing was new but now there are about 0.6 million young people involved with freelancing.

“We want to be an inclusive nation by 2031 by being skilled with practical IT knowledge,” he observed.
