Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed to impose a 15% value-added tax (VAT) on first-class train tickets.
“As a result, first-class train fares will increase by at least 15%,” he said in his budget speech in Parliament.
He added that 15% VAT on air-conditioned (AC) services will be imposed as well as first-class railway services. “As a result, in addition to AC tickets, extra fares will also have to be calculated on train chair coach tickets.”
