The ambassador of Sweden in Bangladesh Johan Frisell has said that the bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and Sweden are very commendable.
The ambassador made the comment while paying a visit to the factory of GPH Ispat Ltd at Kumira in Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon.
The ambassador assured exporters of the both countries of extending all necessary cooperation to boost the trade relations further.
He also expressed his optimism that the soon-to-be-constructed unit of GPH Ispat Ltd would be environment-friendly.
Welcoming the Swedish envoy, Mohammed Jahangir Alam, managing director of GPH Ispat Ltd, said: “The demand for heavy metal scrap is increasing in Bangladesh. At present we import the metal scrap from Sweden’s Stena Metal International.”
“We have signed an agreement with Pri-Metal GmBH Austria and now we are completing the procedures to set up a new plant step by step. At present GPH Ispat manufactures 1,70,000 tons of steel annually,” said Alam.
“With the construction of the new plant, GPH will be able to produce one million ton steel yearly and 1.15 million tons of metal scrap will be required in this regard.”
The managing director of GPH Ispat also sought the cooperation from Swedish government in flourishing the steel industry of Bangladesh.
Kajsa Aldstedt, chief of Trade and Commercial Section of Sweden Embassy, commercial officer Tazneen Chowdhury, Jens Bjorkman, head of Ferrous Department, Stena Metal in Sweden, Mohammed Almas Shimul, additional managing director of GPH Ispat Ltd, were present during the visit of Swedish ambassador.
