Update : 08 May 2022, 12:38 PM

A probe committee has been formed to look into the recent incident on a train involving a travel ticket examiner and some supposed relatives of the railways minister, and the TTE’s subsequent suspension.

The three-member committee was formed on Saturday, with the divisional transportation officer (Pakshi) as its convener, said Bangladesh Railway West Zone General Manager Mihir Kanti Guha.

The probe body was asked to submit its report within three working days.

Shafiqul Islam, TTE of the intercity train Sundarban Express, on May 4 fined three passengers, who had introduced themselves as relatives of Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, for travelling without tickets.

The TEE was suspended for “misbehaving with passengers” the next day.

When asked about the matter, Minister Sujan said no relative of his would travel without a ticket. “I am in no way related to them (the fined passengers). Those who have tried to benefit by using my name will be brought to book,” he added.

“I heard from senior officials that the TTE had mistreated the passengers travelling without tickets. That is the reason for the departmental action against him,” said the railways minister.
