Remains of 1971 genocide victims recovered in Muslim Bazar buried

Muslim Bazar is one of the most well-known mass killing sites of the 1971 Liberation War

The remains of the victims of the 1971 genocide found in Muslim Bazar have been buried with state honors at Mirpur Buddhijibi Graveyard. 

Army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was present when the remains were buried on Monday, according to an ISPR statement. 

Muslim Bazar is one of the most well-known sites of mass killing where the Pakistani soldiers killed Bangladeshis during the Liberation War.

On July 27, 1999, human remains were discovered at the site during the renovation of Noori Mosque at Mirpur-12. 

The remains were tested by the War Crimes Facts Finding Committee which crossmatched tissue samples with living relatives.

Some remains have been kept at the Liberation War Museum while some were sent to the Army Museum.  

The rest were buried under the army’s supervision.
