Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam has said that mass killings occurred in Bangladesh centering the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, but it was not genocide.
He made this statement to the media on Tuesday.
He said: “Mass murder means mass killing, genocide means ethnic extermination. In July, mass killing took place in Bangladesh, not genocide.”
Earlier, on Monday, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam had said that after receiving the investigation report identifying former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others as masterminds of the July-August mass killings linked to the anti-discrimination student movement, the report would be thoroughly analyzed and submitted to the tribunal in the form of a formal charge sheet.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam stated that an investigation report has been submitted against the three main masterminds of the July-August mass killings, including Sheikh Hasina.
Among them are former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. An investigation report has been submitted against these three individuals.
He said that after receiving this report, the chief prosecutor will thoroughly review and evaluate everything before submitting a formal charge to the tribunal. Five charges have been found against Sheikh Hasina. Two of them will be disclosed today. The remaining will be disclosed later.
The first charge is incitement. The second is issuing direct orders. There are many call records concerning this matter, in which she gave instructions for murder and even for causing bodily mutilation. Additionally, allegations have emerged regarding three specific incidents, which will be revealed later.
