3rd death anniversary of journalist Golam Sarwar on Friday

Golam Sarwar was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2014 for his contribution to the field of journalism

The 3rd death anniversary of eminent journalist and former Dainik Samakal editor Golam Sarwar will be observed on Friday.

Golam Sarwar died of old-age complications at the Singapore General Hospital at the age of 75 in 2018.

On behalf of Samakal, homage will be paid at his grave at Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard at 4 pm while Golam Sarwar's family members will hold a doa-mahfil and distribute foods among the orphans

at Banaripara in Barisal district.

Born on April 1 in 1943 at Banaripara of Barisal, Sarwar obtained his Honors and Master's degrees from Dhaka University (DU).

In his student life in 1962, he started his career as a university correspondent at Dainik Azadi.

In the same year, he joined Dainik Sangbad as a sub-editor. He worked at the daily till March 25 in 1971. He actively participated in the Liberation War.

After the independence, he served as the headmaster of Banaripara Union Institution.

Later in 1972, he joined Dainik Ittefaq as a senior sub-editor. He also served as joint news editor and news editor in the newspaper till 1999.

In 1999, he became the editor of Dainik Jugantor and in 2005 he joined Dainik Samakal as the founding editor. He served as the editor at the newspaper till his death.

He also served as the chairman of the board of directors of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and member of board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Golam Sarwar was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2014 for his contribution to the field of journalism.
