A bus driver’s assistant has died after being crushed in the collision of two buses in Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as Nazmul, 17, son of Shamsher Miah of Udia Par village in Itna upazila of Kishoreganj.
The incident took place near Abul Hotel in Rampura on Tuesday afternoon, DMCH police outpost In-Charge Md Bachchu Miah confirmed the matter.
He said following the accident, locals rescued Nazmul in a critical condition and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead.
The body was kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Jalil Hawlader, a passenger of the bus that hit Nazmul, said two buses of Raida Paribahan were driving recklessly to get in front of each other on the road.
Jalil said Nazmul, who was the driver’s assistant on one of the buses, got off his vehicle and tried to cross the other bus on foot. At the time, the driver of the other bus lost control and rammed another bus from behind, with Nazmul being stuck in the middle of the collision and sustaining critical injuries. Later he died at the hospital.
Nazmul’s father Shamsher Miah is an auto rickshaw driver. The family lives in Sayedabad in the capital.
