The Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) has claimed that the government has been taking various initiatives to ensure that at least 20,000 Malaysian tourists will visit Bangladesh next year.
BTB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jabed Ahmed made the statement on Wednesday at a webinar.
The webinar was the 8th part of the webinar series, entitled “Tourism: Penalty Shoot for Bangladesh's Economy”. It was jointly organized by Travel Magazine and Bangladesh Tourism Board.
At the webinar, the BTB CEO said the government was taking the initiatives to celebrate tourism year in 2021 as well as the 50th anniversary of independence.
He also mentioned that the government would take all possible initiatives to ensure that tourists from ASEAN and OIC member countries visited Bangladesh to celebrate Tourism Year and made it a success for Bangladesh, which goal was on the list of potential successes in tourism after Covid-19.
The Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Amir Farid Abu Hasan, Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Ram Chandra Das, and Acting Chief of Tourist Police Md Fazlur Rahman were also present on the occasion.
Stressing the importance of strengthening tourism and cultural ties between the two countries, the Malaysian High Commissioner said his government and the High Commission would extend all possible cooperation in this regard so that Bangladesh-Malaysia tourism relations could reach new heights.
Fitra Mohd Ali of Islamic Tourism Center, Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia, presented the keynote address from Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia.
He highlighted various aspects of how the two countries could work together for the development of tourism.
Air Commodore Mahbub Jahan Khan, planning director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, explained the various facilities for Malaysian tourists travelling to Bangladesh by air.
